Golden Globe nomination for Scandal's Kerry Washington? It's handled.
The 36-year-old powerhouse has finally landed a nod from the
Hollywood Foreign Press Association for her work on the ABC political
drama — recognized at last for all the yelling, crying, and scheming she
does (sometimes simultaneously) as crisis manager Olivia Pope.
We've long been fans of Kerry, but the HFPA hasn't been, inexplicably — even last year, when her Scandal-ousness earned an Emmy nomination.
But 2013 seems to be her year. She won two Image Awards on February 1 for Scandal and Django Unchained,
she became the first African American Best Actress in a Drama Series
Emmy nominee in 18 years, and she earned a SAG Award nomination just
yesterday (December 11).
Oh, and did we mentioned that she also became a wife and a mother-to-be this year?
Kerry will have stiff competition come January 12, though — Julianna Margulies as ambitious attorney Alicia Florrick on The Good Wife, Tatiana Maslany as countless clones on Orphan Black, Taylor Schilling as clueless convict Piper Chapman in Orange Is the New Black, and Robin Wright as chilly conniver Claire Underwood on House of Cards.
All five women are fierce talents, so we'll pretend not be
playing favorites here and be happy for whoever ends up taking home
Golden Globes gold that night!
Alright you go KERRY!
